Over and Out for 2020

Over and Out for 2020

Welcome to your weekly food safety fix!

In this, our 26th blog (also the last for 2020), we look at reward and recognition and how motivation is amplified when we choose the right method of acknowledging someone’s contribution.

As human beings we all want to be valued and appreciated for our contributions – whether it is in our capacity as individuals or as a team.  In a recent research study, employers were asked to rank, in order of importance, what they think employees wanted from their jobs.  Employees were asked the same question and the difference was startling!  Employers ranked “good wages” as the number 1 contributing factor to job satisfaction – they had it totally wrong…  Employees ranked “appreciation” as their number 1 job satisfaction factor.

Now, we know that a lot of employers think that appreciation is only demonstrated in the form of a financial reward, but this is not the case.  In fact, there are many non-financial rewards that outweigh and outlast any form of financial reward.  Think for a moment how appreciated you would feel if you were on the receiving end of one of the following:

  • Time off
  • Attendance of a course
  • A meal voucher
  • A handwritten card or letter
  • An award, such as a certificate or badge
  • A book or chocolates (even biltong)
  • Movie tickets
  • Recognition in a company publication
  • Offer to make a presentation at a meeting
  • Offer to attend a conference or seminar

This being our last blog for the year, we would like to express our appreciation to every employee, supplier, customer, friend, and colleague.  2020 will be remembered for many years to come – it was a tough year by any standard but, without your support we cannot begin to imagine what it would have been like.

Thank you; Adel, Irma, Wendy, Colette, Ed, Guido, Triona, Anisha and Natica!  We would fail horribly in our duty if we did not thank the ladies in the office who “run the show”; Celeste, Natacha, and Ilse – THANK YOU!

Although we will be taking some time off over the next few weeks, our website is never on holiday.  Reward yourself or a deserving team member with a food safety training course – click here to see our 2021 training programme.  You are welcome to pop us an e-mail with your specific food safety training needs – we will take a look at our e-mail intermittently.

Wishing you and your loved ones a happy holiday!  Stay safe!

From the Food Bites team.

P.S.  Our offices will reopen on 04/01/2021.
